Leadership in daily life

Hi! Can l share my experience of a trip and my thought about leadership in everyday life?

I traveled to Niigata prefecture today (almost it is yesterday) with my club mates. We enjoyed the food, walking, landscape, snow and onsen.  It was really nice trip and I'd like to go to travel with them soon! However looking back this great trip, I found myself never to take leadership in our group. I just followed others slowly and stayed one place a little too long, so sometimes I made the others wait. I left taking photos, time management, etc to the others.

Wow! I never try to take leadership positively... Actually I've already known that. I understand myself very well. I am a little bit too lazy and tend to find things bothersome...! Is it possible for me, such a lazy girl, to be a good leader?

However I have another question that whether good leaders have to behave as a leader in everyday life or not. Actually I am not good at leading others, but I can make effort to take leadership, for example, in club.

Probably, there are leaders who naturally take leadership anytime, and in every situation, but on the contrary good leaders may change 'ON' and 'OFF.'
Should I try to take leadership in everyday life even if I do not like lead others, to be a good captain in my club?

The Second Week

From reading chapter 1

The strategy of the chapter is "Never loose sight of ultimate goal, and focus on short term objectives." The strategy is very important not only taking leadership but also in other every situation in our life. Whenever we want to archive something, we need ultimate goal and short term tasks or things to do.

From the reading, we can find several skills accompanying the strategy.
The one of skills is a willingness to find a new goal. As Shackleton's goal shifted from crossing the Antarctic Continent to bringing every men back alive, we should change the ultimate goal and should not cling to the old one.

It is very important skill, and at the same time, the new goal should be better one than before. So that leaders should find good new goal and channel it. If the new goal is not good, leaders and the followers fail even if they quickly change their goal.

Another skill is looking beyond own needs for action. There are other skills, but I think it is more important for leaders to archive something with followers.

Lessons from the story about the skill is that leaders should focus on not only their own needs but also needs of others. The self absorption by leader leaves the rest of others.

This leadership skill is really impressed me, and I would like to apply it to my cheer leading team.

Cheer leading is a typical team sports, so it is so emphasized that "One for all, all for one." We, cheer leaders are required to think others' problems as our own. So that the skill is very important for me, who will become captain of the cheer leading team!!

For example when we participate in a competition, almost of everyone has a little anxiety or pressure. If leader channel on only her own anxiety, others' feelings do not become better, and the performance will be failed. Then if leader share feelings of both her own and others, followers would not be disappointed and the bond of the team be stronger.

The First Week

What I learned first in this class was what was a good hand shake.
I have never thought about hand shaking itself, because hand shaking is not so popular in Japan, especially between the young like me.

The important points are just three things; brief, warm and firm!
Unfortunately I do not have opportunity to shake hands with others except for our classmates, but if I get the chance, I will try good hand shaking!

Next we learned the power posing.
Power posing gives us confident by raising the level of testosterone, and help us to do better performance.

We tried speaking ourselves in front of others in the class with power pose, however, I feel not so confident...

The reason is that I spoke in English. I do not have confident my poor English, so even if I took power pose, my worry did not disappear.

If so, can I get the successful result when I speak Japanese?

About me

Hi, I'm Mizuki from Tokyo.

I'm in cheer leading club ANGELS that is the best club in ICU, I think, and practice hard for competitions.

Last weekend I had a big cheer leading competition for collage students, and it was the last competition that we participated with 16 members...

The result was not so good, but we did our best!

Thanks to hard practice for the competition and making album to give 16 members and 'uchiage' after the competition, I had no time to edit my blog...

                         I organized this fantastic 'uchiage.'

Cheer leading and the reason why I take this class is strongly related.
We, 17 members will be the executive of ANGELS from next year, so we have to organize our team and  lead the other members.

However I'm not good at speaking in the presence of others and explaining my thoughts, so I want to overcome my weak points and acquire good leadership through this class!

By the way  I love eating and searching nice cafes and restaurants, so tell me if  somebody of you know good place to eat, and let's go eating together!
