In our group, I was not the leader. I waited to be told something by someone. Ei and Hiromi had ideas and suggested plans. I actually had no plan, and I left on others. In such situation, I'm really poor at conceiving of any ideas. I don't have creativity. I wanted to win the challenge, however, I tried not to disrupt. How negative attitude I was...!
In the first challenge, we were the No.1, made 50cm marshmallow tower.
But for the second challenge we failed to make higher tower. We build 40cm high. Why did we unable to make higher tower?
Before the second challenge, Rab told us the secret strategies of success. For example, to look at other team, not to waste time to discuss or to ask whether we get more materials.
We tried to put these strategies into practice, but we were a little bit too constrained these strategies. I thought we sometimes had better go our own way.
Thinking of myself, I had to have my opinions.
It is easier to leave making decision on others.
However leaders should not avoid deciding when they face serious situation.
I really enjoyed this challenge, however. I'd like to praise myself in this point...(^^;)>

Hi Mizuki,
ReplyDeleteI was there in your team too Mizuuukiiii! Don't forget! haha:)
As you said, its theme was leadership. Also, I think it is not only leadership but team work at the same time. In this exercise, I think it is not the most necessary thing that all members can create and contribute to team in the way of making effective ideas as leader, so I mean follwership is also needed. I am going to write this reflection too! Your great work always encourages me, Thanks!
Erina! Thank you for your comments.I know you were the one, but I missed your name, sorry! Hahaha!!
DeleteYes, you have a good look! The purpose of this challenge is not only leadership, but also team work. I tend to focus on only individuals, but from now on, I will think about sth from various perspectives!
Thanks Erina!
DeleteHi Mizuki,
ReplyDeleteoh Akki-ta (Erina) has already told what I wanted to say.. anyways I also assume that there are many ways to contribute to a team. For example, leading a team or generating ideas. And also followership should be one of the important ways to contribute to teamwork. Maybe it is great if we are able to change the style, that is leadership style and followership style, depending to the situation I guess.
I love seeing this back and forth between you and Erina. Wonderful!
DeleteHi Mizuki,
ReplyDeleteThanks for three fine posts!
I love seeing all the deep reflection you are making with the text, the video, and the marshmallow challenge. I worry a little that you are too negative and hard on yourself, but great leaders are typically very self-critical and strive to overcome their weaknesses and make every experience a learning opportunity, just as you are doing.
I wanted to mention too that with the marshmallow challenge, you showed leadership by not leading. In fact, this is an important part of emergent leadership, the ability to sit back and let others lead when they have better ideas. If everyone has good ideas and then you fight over which idea is best, you don't get anywhere. But as you saw with your initial success, as a team you were highly effective by letting some lead and others support.
Hi, Ken!
DeleteThank you for your comment!
Your comments always encourage and make me think, so I love to read them.
Yeah, I do not have confident so much, but there is a reason that I tend to be too optimistic. But I often only criticize myself and be satisfied, so I think I have to do something for change or improve.
In addition, I'd like to focus on other way of leadership ('not leading' leadership?) from now on.
